Ruth Roman was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, the oldest of the three daughters of Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline (Gold) and Abraham Roman. When her father passed away as a carnival barker, at the age of a little girl and she was forced to provide for the family by working as a maid and server. Ruth went to school in Boston's tenement region, which was the most deplorable. Her school was closed in two years, to go into acting. Her journey was not without obstacles. her chosen career path. Then, in New York she was hired to take photos in a crime magazine however, no theatre opportunities were offered. While in New York, she worked at a bar, as a check-in girl before quitting and moving back to Boston. The city of Boston was in which she was employed during the late night, she was an actor for New England Repertory Company and the rest of the time, was an usherette. She received a master's degree in drama from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
