Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman is the third daughter of their family. Her father was a carnival barker, died at the age of a tiny little girl. This forced her mother to help support her family through work as a waitress and cleaning woman. Ruth grew in a poor Boston tenement community in Massachusetts. She went to school in Boston. The school she attended after only two years to pursue a career as an actor. Her path was not without obstacles. While in New York, her first job involved posing stills in crime magazines. her dream of performing in the theater she wanted eluded. After a brief time as a club hat girl, she decided to return home to the United States and quit the job she was working in. It was there that she earned a living in the ushering industry during the during the day and then at night performed with the New England Repertory Company. This was her very first acting job. She also studied drama and eventually graduated from the Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
