Ruth Roman (n e Gold) was born at Lynn located in Massachusetts. Her parents were Lithuanian Jews Mary Pauline and Abraham Roman. As a young girl, her carnival barker father passed away which left Ruth's mother no option but to work as a cleaning woman and waitress to provide for the family. Ruth was raised in the poorest neighborhood in Boston Massachusetts in which she went to the school. In the midst of only two years in school she left for the acting career. The route she took did not come without challenges. In New York, her first assignment was to shoot stills for crime magazines. her dream of performing in the theater she longed for was not available. The following job she got was the "hat check" lady at a club but she quit and moved back to Boston. The New England Repertory Company was her first gig as a steady actor. The company paid her working during the day working as an Usherette. Her studies in drama led her to graduate from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
