Ruth Roman was born on June 22nd, 1939, at Lynn Massachusetts. The actress is the youngest child of Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. Ruth was a small teenager when her father who was an carnival barker, died. Her mother had to work in jobs like waitressing, cleaning and washing. Ruth was raised in the poor Boston Tenement area in Massachusetts. She went to school there. But she only stayed in school for two years before going on to pursue an acting profession. The path was difficult to take. Although she got an interview at a theatre in New York posing as a woman for a magazine but no theater jobs were offered to her. The next position she was offered was a "hat check" girl for a nightclub but she quit and moved back to Boston. It was there that she earned a living working as an usherette during the day, and at night performing with the New England Repertory Company. It was her first job as an actor. She was a drama student in the Bishop-Lee Theatre School and graduated.
