Ruth Roman is the youngest child born to Lithuanian and Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) & Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. After her father died in the role of a carnival barker as a little girl, she had to help support the family working both as a cleaner and a server. Ruth was raised in the poorest neighborhood in Boston Massachusetts where she enrolled in the school. However, she was only in school for a couple of years, then taking a break to pursue her acting profession. Her journey was not without obstacles. her chosen career path. Then, in New York she was hired to do a photo shoot for a publication about crime, but no theatrical job opportunities came up. In New York, she worked at a bar as an entry-point girl, before quitting after a few months and moving to Boston. In Boston, she was able to earn a living as an usherette by day, and at night performed with the New England Repertory Company. It was her first job as an actor. She studied drama in the Bishop-Lee Theatre School and graduated.
