Ruth Roman was born on June 22nd, 1939, at Lynn Massachusetts. The actress is the eldest child of Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. Ruth was a small teenager when her father who worked as an carnival barker, died. The mother of the family had to take on jobs like waitressing, cleaning and washing. Ruth attended the school in Boston's tenement region, which was the most deplorable. But she only stayed in school for a couple of years, then taking a break to pursue her acting career. The path she chose did not come without challenges. In New York, her first task was to pose stills for crime magazines, the theatre work that she wanted eluded. Then, she worked as a hat check girl at the nightclub before calling it quits and returning to Boston. There, she made the ends meet by working with her ushering duties during the day while at night performing with the New England Repertory Company, the first job she had that was steady. She graduated with a certificate in drama at Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
